Fire Smoke Damper (FSD) and Smoke Control System (SCS) Awareness Training
The National Energy Management Institute (NEMI) advocates for fire life safety ordinances across the country that require building owners to use a certified, skilled and trained workforce to conduct the periodic inspections of fire and smoke dampers according to requirements in NFPA Codes and Standards.
NEMI provides educational seminars to Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), firefighters, fire life safety design professionals and public officials. Seminars are offered at no cost for attendees and conducted at state-of-the-art training centers maintained jointly by the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation (SMART) workers and Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ Association (SMACNA). Each seminar attendee receives a Certificate of Completion that identifies Continuing Education Units earned for their participation.
Each seminar provides the following opportunities to attendees:
- An in-depth look at the periodic inspection requirements for Fire and Smoke Damper and Smoke Control Systems in NFPA Codes and Standards;
- Hands-on activities to become familiar with the proper installation, operation and inspections of fire smoke dampers;
- Hands-on activities to become familiar with the proper operation, testing and inspection of fire and smoke control systems;
- Related research from the University of Maryland;
- NFPA Fire and Life Safety Ecosystem; and
- Fire and Smoke Damper and Smoke Control Systems Components.
