• The Fire and Smoke Damper (FSD) Supervisor course focuses on the skills and tools required to direct and oversee the work performed by one or more ICB certified FSD Technicians.
• An online course is available for FSD Supervisor. The online course contains a study guide, resources including vocabulary and printable study guide, and a Contractor Toolbox with sample reports, method of procedures, and white papers.
• This class will instruct FSD Supervisors on responsibilities in developing procedures needed to perform an inspection of a building’s fire and smoke dampers, as well as explain the responsibilities before, during and after a damper inspection.
• Following this online course and independent study, the student will be ready to take a proctored examination.

• The Smoke Control Systems (SCS) Supervisor course focuses on the skills and tools required to direct and oversee the work performed by one or more ICB certified SCS Technicians.
• An online course is available for SCS Supervisor.  The online course contains a study guide and resources including vocabulary and printable manual .
• This class outlines the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards on which most local and state fire and life safety codes are based, and trains supervisors on how to inspect, test, and maintain SCS systems in a building.
• Following this online course and independent study, the student will be ready to take a proctored examination.

• Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) describes the condition of air inside a building.  The condition of the air is a combination of the chemical, biological, and particulate matter in the air and air temperature and humidity.  IAQ is important because the condition of the air affects the comfort and health of the people in a building.  That means IAQ can affect people’s productivity and well-being.  If the condition of the air is unacceptable, complaints and even lawsuits can result. IAQ is also of critical concern for architects, engineers and consultants who offer technical support.
• An online course is available for IAQ Supervisor.  The online course contains the IAQ Supervisor Manual, study guide, and resources.
• Training as an IAQ Supervisor including necessary skill set, required tools, and work procedures. Requires a proctored examination, following the training, to obtain ICB certification.  This class will cover the IAQ Supervisor’s role in overseeing work performed by one or more ICB certified IAQ Technicians.
• Following this online course and independent study, the student will be ready to take a proctored examination.

• Ideally, HVAC systems should run smoothly and with minimal noise. However, some “kick in” with vibrations and loud noises can occur. The sound and vibration professional is vital in creating a solution using techniques of measurement and analysis.
• The TABB Sound and Vibration Supervisor Manual is the SMACNA – HVAC Sound and Vibration Manual.  Applicants currently self-study for the Sound and Vibration Supervisor examination using this single manual as the basis for their exam preparation. Currently there is not an online study guide or online course and an official course is not required to take the examination.
• All SMART members can obtain access to the SMACNA manuals through the International Training Institute Learning Center at https://read.sheetmetal-iti.org/Account/Login.aspx. SMART members can reach out to their local JATC coordinator to obtain access to the ITI e-reader.
• If you do not have access to the ITI e-reader, and your application has been accepted, you can request a copy of the SMACNA – HVAC Commissioning Manual by emailing the Certification Systems Manager.

Once your application has been approved, you will be emailed a notice to contact your JATC coordinator to schedule an examination.  You can then contact NEMIC directly (703-739-7100) to request a Sound and Vibration Supervisor Manual (SMACNA – HVAC Sound and Vibration Manual).

• The TABB Supervisor directs and oversees work performed by TABB Technicians.
• An online course is available for TABB Supervisor.  The online course contains a study guide, resources including charts and formulas, and a Contractor Toolbox with sample test sheets and specifications.  You will also receive complete access to the “Contractor Tool Box” which has useful tools for starting a Fire and Smoke Damper department.
• The online course will discuss the necessary skill sets, required tools and work procedures to meet TABB standards, including the ICB Code of Conduct. This online course will instruct supervisors on their responsibilities in overseeing the work performed and reviewing and signing off on the Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing (TAB) report.
• Following this online course and independent study, the student will be ready to take a proctored examination.

• As a certified Acceptance Test Technician Certificate Provider (ATTCP), the National Energy Management Institute Committee (NEMIC) provides training, certification, and oversight of the Mechanical Acceptance Test Employers (MATE) that employ Mechanical Acceptance Test Technicians (MATT).  A contractor offering Mechanical Acceptance Testing services is required to employ at least one MATE and at least one MATT.  They can, and are recommended to, have multiple certified MATEs and MATTs.
• An online course is available for the MATE.  The online course contains a study guide and resources including MATE Resource Manual, Acceptance Tests, and applicable California Energy Commission (CEC) documents .
• This class outlines the Building Energy Efficiency Standards acceptance test procedures and compliance documentation, and the MATE the contractor requirements and responsibilities when offering Mechanical Acceptance Testing services.

Following this online course and independent study, the student will be ready to take an online examination. A proctored examination is not required for the MATE.

• Commissioning is an added process to help insure that design intent has been achieved.  A certified TABB technician and Equipment Start-up technician provides their field measurements and verification to a TABB Commissioning Supervisor who then provides an assessment based on the data collected and additional verification.
• The TABB Commissioning Supervisor Manual is the SMACNA – HVAC Commissioning Manual.  Applicants currently self-study for the CX Supervisor examination using this single manual as the basis for their exam preparation. Currently there is not an online study guide or online course and an official course is not required to take the examination.
