About this Course:
This course takes inspectors, authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) owners representatives, through a virtual academic classroom training followed by a virtual tour of a Mechanical Acceptance Testing Technician training center. Experienced field technicians will take the student through the most common forms. The student will go through required physical testing and verification to ensure design intent is achieved. This course includes 2025 code cycle updates to the Title 24 Mechanical Acceptance Test Program.
Learning Objective 1: Understand what Mechanical Acceptance Forms are and the role and benefits they have towards ensuring buildings and equipment achieve design intent and building code compliance in areas such as outside air, energy recovery, thermal health, humidity control, ventilation, safety and security, and other areas that directly affect the health, safety, comfort, and indoor air quality of a building and its future occupants.
Learning Objective 2: Understand the intent of the Mechanical Acceptance Forms and when they are required. This course will discuss some of the issues, such as improper ventilation, wasted energy, building and critical space pressurization concerns, thermal health, and indoor air quality issues that may arise when a building’s mechanical acceptance is not done properly by qualified technicians.
Learning Objective 3: Understand the physical tests that a technician must accurately perform to provide the design professional, inspector and owner with assurance that the installed equipment will achieve design intent. This course will also provide discussions and examples of what an inspector or design professional should observe or question of an acceptance technician to ensure that the acceptance testing is done properly to protect the occupants of the building, and for the equipment to achieve the desired energy and performance results.
Learning Objective 4: Understand the importance of properly operating control sequences, economizer and outdoor air dampers, and demand control ventilation systems to ensure that CO2 levels are maintained within the design parameters to protect building occupants from dangerous levels of CO2 and other potential indoor air pollutants that may build up when systems have not be properly verified to operate as designed during building occupancy.
Learning Objective 5: What studies have been done on classroom ventilation? A 2003 study and a 2019 study on classroom ventilation will be evaluated for the extent and cause of improper classroom ventilation. Additional studies will be summarized for the health effects to building occupants of improper ventilation.
